THE CENSORS

ink on book
During my time in Chongqing i painted one page of an old catalogue
of a very famous german collection of paintings i brought from home.
With a rather big Chinese ink brush i painted one page every day,
blackening the whole image apart from the hands if there were any
depicted in these famous european paintings.
It became a book of western gestures to me.
I also painted the written catalogue that went along with the black
and white reproductions, leaving out every line that mentioned what
happened between 1933 - 1945, the time when germany was ruled
by fashists who destroyed and stole a lot of artworks all this time through.
