Mapping projec
[The Introduction]
The current landscape of Tong Yuan Ju area in Chongqing is gradually formed from the collectivism period of China. The unique city forms, spatial patterns and building structures were also established under the predominant influence of the special ideology of that period. We name the knowledge related to the architecture of that period as ‘The architecture of collectivism’. As great changes have occurred in China within the last 30 years, both the collectivism-architecture and the buildings at Tong Yuan Ju will fade away soon as a result of the great reformation. We hereby plan to record the architectural elements of Tong Yuan Ju in terms of different forms of land use, buildings and structures as a sample of the architecture during the collectivism period, and this is the central objective of this mapping project at Tong Yuan Ju.
The project of mapping Tong Yuan Ju is one of the literature programs in the ‘T1 project’. It will be led by architects, and professional architectural method will be used for investigating and describing. The expected output will be in the form of literature. This project aims at recording the architectural elements of Tong Yuan Ju area, which involves city forms, space patterns and construction methods, etc. All of these elements are uniquely formed during the special period and should be properly recorded. It is obviously that the achievements of this project will serve as a valuable basis of future works.
