Built in the year of 1905,Tongyuanju covered an area of 200 acres and mainly functioned for the production of copper coins. Taken over by the Communist Party at 1949, it was renamed as Changjiang Electric Factory,which then was expanded and refurbished by the expert from the Soviet Union to become an ammunition factory. In its prime time,it has 7500 workers and totally 17000 residents including those workers' families and siblings. It became a civil use factory in 1980. In 2001,the factory signed the land exchange agreement with Hong Kong Rongqiao Group and started demolition ever since.

Case study: "Tongyuanju"Since 2010, Wang Haichuan has initiated a series of projects with the residents of Tongyuanju, a historic industrial district in the center of Chongqing that is being “redeveloped.”
